Job Title: Quality Assurance and Product Safety Manager (HUNT Bike Wheels | The Rider Firm)

Hours: Full Time Position (38.75 hours per week/ 8:30 – 5pm)

Normal week; 4 days per week in the office.

Location: The location of the post will be at or near Partridge Green in West Sussex, in a beautiful location close to the South Downs National Park. The role will include at least 4 days working with our engineering, technical and operational teams and being hands on with product.

Salary: Generous dependant on experience + significant company-wide performance based bonus which was 20% on top of salary for 2021.

Team: Part of Engineering & Technical Team, and directly line managing QC and 2nd line tech support co-ordinator.

Intro

The Rider Firm exists to serve riders by creating the best available cycling products. The Quality Assurance and Product Safety Manager will be the primary role involved in setting and delivering the best standards in product safety for our riders.

Role and Responsibilities:

This engineering role offers an excellent opportunity to be a core part the development process for our Hunt Bike Wheels, Privateer Bikes and Cairn Cycles brands. The successful candidate will be empowered to continue to develop and build upon our established quality and safety protocols ensuring they are kept up to date as we develop new technologies and as industry standards evolve. 

Reporting to the Head of Technical Development and Engineering, this role will lead the product safety and QA pillar within our engineering team, working closely with our other engineering pillars focused on aerodynamic and mechanical development of our products. The role will manage the QC and 2nd line product support co-ordinator, developing their career and building the team as requirements develop.

This is what your role entails

• Design, develop and implement best quality practices and processes for product development.

• Develop and initiate quality standards for tests, inspections, and evaluations.  

• Develop and implement quality assurance systems.

• Apply statistical techniques to determine appropriate sampling ratios

• Create processes for assessing, reporting, and documenting quality standards in our products and repair services.

• Develop strategies to evaluate the precision and accuracy of analytical equipment, tests & measurements and production equipment.

• Troubleshoot and resolve problems relating to quality assurance, working with suppliers and the development team to develop solutions. 

• Collaborate with operational teams to implement controls and improvements.

• Develop, monitor, and analyse data from systems for recording data from product development testing, approval, and ongoing QA checks.

• Research and maintain excellent knowledge of relevant industry standards including ISO and ETRTO, applying that knowledge to our internal processes and standards.

• Train operational teams on QC procedures and build excellent working relationships to ensure high quality feedback to the engineering team from QC processes and customer service requests.


Personal Specification:

Essential

• Degree in industrial or mechanical engineering or other relevant engineering discipline.

• Several years’ experience in quality engineering, quality assurance, or a similar role.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• In-depth understanding of technical documentation and CAD drawings


Highly desirable

• Familiarity with statistical analysis

• Understanding and experience operating FMEA and acting on findings

• Experience of QA with composite and light metal products

• Additional certification in quality assurance would be beneficial

• Cycling industry experience is not essential for this role, but detailed technical bike knowledge whether developed in a professional role or as a personal interest would be highly beneficial
